What is the connection between forbidden meat and destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? Is there any logical connection between them? After discussing the “Concluding topic on Procreation and Prohibited Meat“, let us connect the prohibited act to actual scriptural event, to confirm whether or not the Words indeed are referring to a living human meat or animal meat.

Advise: Don’t feed the lion at rest with forbidden meat. http://www.wordatthenet.com.

The subject verse states, to wit:

4The one thing you must not eat is meat with blood still in it; I forbid this because the life is in the blood.(Genesis 9:4, TEV)

We will try to see, based on scriptural evidence, if in case of its violation,  it had indeed resulted to punitive actions. But when we say punitive actions, let us agree that it means punitive actions by the One who spoke, to the exclusion of punitive actions by parents, preachers, imams, etc, who are not the origin of the Words.

Why punitive actions, by the way? Because, the words were spoken immediately after the flood. They can be used as a clue to the gravity of the “prohibited act” in the eyes of the One who spoke the prohibition, which might have been  done by human beings prior to flood. Admittedly, however, we can only speculate on this aspect because the “Word” did not specify the specific prohibited act prior to flood exactly the same as that mentioned just after the flood. What were mentioned are as follows:

5When the Lord saw how wicked everyone on earth was and how evil their thoughts were all the time,6he was sorry that he ever made them and put them on the earth. He was so filled with regret 7that he said, “I will wipe out these people I have created. and also the animals and the birds, because I am sorry that I have made any of them”. (Genesis 6:5-7, TEV)

From the immediately above verses, nobody can logically say that sexual perversion in a form of “eating meat with blood still in it” is excluded in the words “wickedness and evil thoughts all the time”. In fact, said words maybe considered as the exact equivalence of the current word “pornography”, where evil thoughts are operative all the time. In fine, nobody could discount the possibility of its being the major contributor to God’s anger prior to flood.

On his part, Noah fully understood the meaning of the prohibition because he has personal knowledge of the behaviors of human beings in his time. But through time, the prohibition may have been contaminated by way of generational redefining the word “life” to include foods such as animals.  Science, human rights and sexual perversion doctrines, liberty and freedom, human ignorance , and then, recently, same-sex legislation may each have contributed to the contamination of the meaning of the prohibition.

But before we discuss further, by the way, do we have any instance in the scripture or history, that if ever human beings would “eat animal meat with blood still in it”, the One who is the author of the prohibition would actively act by punishments. None, to my recollection. Others would say that: “what about its effect on individual health?”. Does it have actually an adverse effect on health, in the first place?

Now, do we have scriptural evidences to back-up the proposition that the prohibition is indeed referring to the living human meat? Yes. This is illustrated by the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

19 When the two angels came to Sodom that evening, Lot was sitting at the city gate. As soon as he saw them, he got up and went to meet them. He bowed down before them and said, “Sirs, I am here to serve you. Please come to my house. You can wash your feet and spend the night. In the morning you can get up early and go on your way.” x x x (Genesis 19:1-2, TEV)

At the outset, let me emphasize on the word “Sirs” which is very important in our discussion. These two angels visited Lot in Sodom. Being called Sirs, they  are externally identifiable as males. What happened next is exceptional.

Before the guests went to bed, the men of Sodom surrounded the house. All the men of the city, both young and old, were there. They called out to Lot and asked, “Where are the men who came to stay with you tonight? Bring them out to us!” The men of Sodom wanted to have sex with them. (Genesis 19:4-5, TEV)

Men to have sex with men? Despite the offer of Lot to have his virgin daughters given to the men of Sodom, the offer was violently refused.

Lot went outside and closed the door behind him. He said to them, “Friends, I beg you, don’t do such a wicked thing! 8 Look, I have two daughters who are still virgins. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do whatever you want with them. But don’t do anything to these men; they are guests in my house, and I must protect them.”

But they said, “Get out of our way, you foreigner! Who are you to tell us what to do? Out of our way, or we will treat you worse than them.” They pushed Lot back and moved up to break down the door. 10 But the two men inside reached out, pulled Lot back into the house, and shut the door. 11 Then they struck all the men outside with blindness, so that they couldn’t find the door. (Genesis 19:6-11, TEV)

The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah followed. The question is: Is this scenario, e.g sexual activity between men, not present in some communities today? Also, will non-violence, e.g, same-sex marriage, not result to same fate?

Some protagonist preachers (not from the Christian faith) are saying that above verses are  contaminating the “Word” with “pornography and indecency”, thus, they are allegedly not coming from God. But do they have the personal knowledge in saying so? Do they know the real intention of the verses on forbidden meat? Are the verses demonstrative of what God will do to communities which are legalizing sodomy similar to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah?
