Forbidden Meat and Sodom and Gomorrah

What is the connection between forbidden meat and destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? Is there any logical connection between them? After discussing the “Concluding topic on Procreation and Prohibited Meat“, let us connect the prohibited act to actual scriptural event, to confirm whether or not the Words indeed are referring to a living human meat or animal meat.

The subject verse states, to wit:

4The one thing you must not eat is meat with blood still in it; I forbid this because the life is in the blood.(Genesis 9:4, TEV)

We will try to see, based on scriptural evidence, if in case of its violation,  it had indeed resulted to punitive actions. But when we say punitive actions, let us agree that it means punitive actions by the One who spoke, to the exclusion of punitive actions by parents, preachers, imams, etc, who are not the origin of the Words.

Why punitive actions, by the way? Because, the words were spoken immediately after the flood. They can be used as a clue to the gravity of the “prohibited act” in the eyes of the One who spoke the prohibition, (more…)

Forbidden Meat: Circumstances when Spoken

To fully comprehend the intent of the prohibition, is it necessary to correlate the spoken words to the circumstances when they were spoken. But before discussing more deeply on the topic, it would be helpful to know the surrounding circumstances when the words were spoken.

In brief, these words were spoken to Noah and his sons after the flood.

4The one thing you must not eat is meat with blood still in it; I forbid this because the life is in the blood.(Genesis 9:4, TEV)

Although The Word does not specifically mention the traumatic effects of flood on the family of Noah, their fear may be seen and acknowledgement of  the power of God was exhibited by Noah’s acts of offering sacrifices to God.

Logic of words on forbidden meat

What is the logic of forbidden meat verse in Genesis 9:4? More specifically, the subject words are accompanied by the following verses; “2All the animals, birds and fish will live in fear  of you. They are all placed under your power. 3Now you can eat them, as well as green plants; I give them all to you for food. 4The one thing you must not eat is meat with blood still in it. I forbid this because the life is in the blood. 5If anyone takes human life, he will be punished. I will punish with death any animal that takes a human life“. (Genesis 9:2-5, TEV).

Previously, the main issue that was posed is: “Whether not not the word “life” stated in verse 4 refers only to  “human” life,  to the exclusion of “animal” life”.

If your answer is NO, that is- both human and animal life are deemed included in the word “life” in verse 4, then it is necessary to review the accompanying verses in order to be sure on the thoughts of the One who spoke, whether or not, it is really so.

Immediately after verse 4, verse 5 states as follows:

5If anyone takes human life, he will be punished. I will punish with death any animal that takes a human life. (Genesis 9:5, TEV).

Why is it necessary to review the accompanying verses of the subject word “life”, in the first place? (more…)
